REINVENTED GARDENS : COUNTERWEIGHT
SUMMER PROGRAMMING AT THE MAISON DES ARTS!
June 18, 2023 to September 3, 2023 | Opening : Sunday, June 18, 2 p.m.
From June 18 to September 3 , the summer season will take place at the Maison des arts et de la culture de Brompton (MACB) including: the Reinvented Gardens of Saint-François on the theme Counterweight , indoor exhibitions by artists Oli Sorenson and Amélie Lemay-Choquette , a new outdoor exhibition on panels by Etienne Saint-Amant and a rich program of live arts as part of the Cultural Breeze !
Reinvented Saint-François Gardens | 14th Edition: Counterbalance
For its summer season, the MACB presents works that integrate the notion of counterweight or which, between them, create one. At the very heart of the Parc de la Rive, the world begins to sway both in the rigidity of a rational system and in the vagueness of lyrical abstraction. The discussion remains: can something exist without the presence of its opposite?
For the 14th edition of the Reinvented Gardens of Saint-François , on the theme Counterweight , 9 in-situ artistic installations will be set up for a summer in the Parc de la Rive. You will find there the creations of the artists Boris Pintado , Ernst perdriel , Axel Roy , Caroline Dostie , Faustine Gruninger , Nisin , Anne Lebel and Christine Labelle as well as the collective works of Bishop's University and the Maison des Jeunes L'Intervalle and Anne-Marie Auclair .
Inside, the summer theme is rooted in the Zombie apocalypse exhibitions by Oli Sorenson and Appar.aître / Appar.être by Amélie Lemay-Choquette . Through controlled and one-dimensional flat areas , Oli Sorenson 's work finds response in the organic and abstract visual of Amélie Lemay-Choquette . While one reveals its response to anxiety-provoking capitalism through a geometric visual language, the other makes use of a living device that stems from instinct, that of the body in motion. Two emerging artists selected in the last exhibitions of the graduates of the
Certificate in visual arts from the University of Sherbrooke also exhibits works deeply linked to this dichotomy upstairs : Attentions by Jeanne Caron (selected in 2022) and Reading between the lines by Valérie Maltais (selected in 2023).
Outdoor exhibition on panels: mathematical contemplations
With the summer season, the outdoor exhibition on panels is renewed and will now present a selection of the Scene and Duale series by the artist Etienne Saint-Amant . The Duale series is also created in duo with the artist Éric Dupont . Echoing the summer theme, the artist's works use a combination of mathematical formulas which themselves become materials and pigments, in addition to creating a coherent dialogue with the biodiversity and ecology of the Parc de la Rive. You will be able to see the exhibition evolve through the seasons until summer 2024! Thanks to the City of Sherbrooke for the support offered in this project!
Guided tours offered every weekend!
Between June 25 and September 3 , our guide will be offering scheduled group tours every Saturday at 3 p.m. and every Sunday at 1 p.m. ! Several activities of the Cultural Breeze are planned before or after these visits, to allow you to fill up on culture! It should be noted that our guide will be on site the rest of the time to answer your questions and present the exhibits to you in a more fluid format.
